Etnies has been dedicated to footwear and apparel for skateboarding, BMX and surfing. For skaters, Emerica, eS, and Etnies are often heard as they are among the major skate shoe brands. They all come from the same company, Sole Technology. Etnies also sponsors teams in action sports, and the Scam is one of the shoes crafted for the riders, just like the famous Jameson Vulc. The Scam, with an updated silhouette of a classic etnies style, has a calm and rounded outline which delivers a rather different look among skate shoes, especially now that slimming down is the dominant trend for todays skate shoes. Smooth suede, classic Scam toe stitch detailing, plus the solid and flexible sole lets you know that you are going to enjoy the shoe.

THE GOOD

The shoe looks cool and is light and durable.
The suede colors are very lovely and easy to go with all sorts of clothing.
The cupsole will give the ankle and feet good shock protection, especially for jumping sets.
The one-piece toe cap design makes the shoe last longer.
The sole is flexible with good board feel.
The price is very affordable and good value.

THE BAD

Etnies has put a lot of effort into reworking its classic Scam shoe. These shoes come in colors including white, black blue and hunter green! The colors certainly are going to freshen up the look immediately. The design of the perforated dots on the medial wall looks cool; and it also increases the shoe’s breathability to keep the feet dry. On the front there is the lovely butt-seamed vintage toe cap. With these cool and functional features in action, these low-tops are out for wearing not just on the boards, but also on the streets!

Midsole / outsole

The Scam comes with one- piece toe cap with original Scam toe stitch detail. For riders, shoes with one piece toe area can last quite well, and this one-piece toe truly enhances the durability of the shoe through tear and wear.

The midsole uses egg crate construction and the shoe adopts cupsole, which greatly enhance its impact protection. While vulcanized sole and cupsole are both popular among skaters, the cupsole gives better foot and, especially ankle support and shock protection. Users who do a lot of jumping sets need to take extra care of the ankles to reduce the risk of smashing them. The good news is, technology has helped the cup sole to be more flexible, not as thick as they used to be. Users do not need much time to break it in and still have great board feel and comfort.
